Ji Terrace by the Sea

Ji Terrace by the Sea occupies the top two floors of Bale Sutra, a Japanese-Chinese temple relocated and rebuilt on Batu Bolong Beach as part of Hotel Tugu Bali. Ornate carved woodwork, red lanterns and antique statuary give it a very different feel from Canggu's usual beach-club rooftops.

The kitchen serves Japanese-inspired fusion food, from sushi and sashimi to charcoal-grilled robata and ramen, paired with Asian-influenced cocktails and a solid sake and wine list. The terrace's 180-degree ocean view makes it a favourite for watching surfers ride the last waves of the day.

Live music plays through the restaurant's speaker system into the evening, and arriving an hour or so before sunset is the best way to secure a front-row table on the top terrace.
